Baptist Aids Response Agency in Africa (BARA), is a Christian organization registered in Kenya and currently working in Kenya, Southern Sudan and Central Africa Republic.
BARA was established in 2002 by the Baptist Convention of Kenya to mobilize their 3,000 church congregations towards a holistic health response particularly HIV/AIDS prevention and control. Since then, 770 pastors have been trained, 110 churches helped to start orphaned and vulnerable childred (OVC) programs. BARA has grown beyond the Baptist constituency to include other church denominations in their school outreach networks.
BARA is now an umbrella organizations for several Faith Based Organizations and church denominations in magnifying the voice of the church within the community to get involved in health and development matters.
Through PEPFAR funding (CDC/CHF) almost 1 million youths have been reached with abstinence messages, hundreds of young couples with marital fidelity messages and over 120,000 people tested for HIV/AIDS in for to reach areas. BARA has just been selected by PEPFAR as a new partner (NPI) to scale up the church response to HIV/AIDS in Kenya.
